Even though we have a fantastic National Health Service here in England, there is still a need for private hospitals such as that of hospital portal. People usually decide to go private, when they cannot get the operation they want quickly on the NHS, or because they are wanting a procedure which is not readily available on the NHS such as breast augmentation. People also often attend private hospitals for procedures such as MRI scanning, Ultrasound scanning and CT scanning. If you are needing such as procedure in order to diagnose a condition, then it is important to remember that you will need a referral letter from either your GP or a consultant.

If you need an MRI scan then you will be asked a list of questions prior to being allowed into the MRI scanner such as:

· Asking as to whether you have a cochlea implant or a pace maker.
· Is there any chance of pregnancy.
· Do you suffer from diabetes.

These are just some of the questions that you may be asked. The answers which you provide to the questions will ultimately impact as to whether you are eligible to go into the MRI scanner or not. These questions are necessary as the MRI scanner is basically a huge magnet, so if you have a pacemaker, then it would not be recommended at all and you would most probably be recommended to have a CT scan.
